Completing the circuit

Today we explored how to make a complete electrical circuit to make a bulb glow. Later in the week we will explore how to represent an circuit on paper.

Following the Shadows

Today we investigated the path of the sun across our sky. We were also exploring the relationship between the placement of the sun and the length of our shadows.

We discovered the lower the sun is in sky the longer our shadow will be. The higher the sun is in the sky and shorter our shadow will be.

At midday the sun is at its higher point and is at its most powerful. This position is called Meridian.

World of Maths

The year 5 and 6 syndicate had a visit from the World of Maths road show today.
There were so many 'hands on' problems to solve - some of them quite challenging, some of them not as challenging.
It was a lot of fun, check out the slide show to see some of the problems we had to solve.

Term 2 Goal Setting

Today we started drafting our learning goals for the term. We discussed areas we want to improve on from last term and we shared our class goals for the year:

To improve our spelling, punctuation and grammar in our daily writing.
To improve our knowledge of place value in maths.
To improve our comprehension reading strategies.

We are using the fishbone template to brainstorm the 'helps' that will assist us to reach our goals plus the 'hindrances' that will get in our way.

Term 2 2010

Welcome to Term 2 everyone!

I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and you are ready for another busy term ahead!
